When the MC-70 motor controller board fails, the walking belt doesn't move (on some it may try to move momentarily) but the incline will still go up and down. You may also see the error code E2 or E21 on the console (not all).
With the power cord unplugged remove the lower cover. There are 2 boards. One is the MC 70 Motor Controller the other is the Power Supply Board. The Power Supply Board has a total of 4 LED's. Plug in the treadmill and you will see 2-3 RED LED's lit on the power supply board. If 2 are lit move the walking belt and a 3rd LED will go on and off. Next insert the safety key. While watching the power supply board press the the start key. The 4th LED labeled PWM should start flickering. (If it doesn't please call). This tells us the console is working correctly. The other possibility is the motor has failed. Very rare but possible.
To test the motor. It is not necessary to remove the motor for this test. There are 2 tests to confirm the motor is working properly. Again with the treadmill unplugged from the A.C.
1. Using a fully charged battery from any device that has a 9-24 volt battery such as a rechargeable power tool, motorcycle, lawn equipment, etc.(call if in question) Remove the red A+ and black A- wires from the MC 70 motor controller. Connect them to the battery A fully charged battery will drive the motor and walking belt @ 1-1.5 mph. You should be able to walk on the belt . Don't do this very long because it will overheat the battery.
2. Alternate test. Using a digital meter (DMM) measure the resistance across the red A+ and black A- wires (motor leads) after they are disconnected from the board. The reading on the Rx1 scale should be 1-5 ohms. Again if in doubt how to do this call 1-877-627-0349.
If the test confirms the motor is good, then the motor controller has failed.
With the treadmill unplugged, disconnect 7 wires (white-blue) (red- black) and (red-black-white) groups and remove the 4 screws. Then send it in for the repair and upgrade. Within about a week it will be back in operation and you can say "I did it myself and saved a lot" Reinstalling it is easy..all the wires and colors are clearly marked on the board. I also include a complete re-installation instruction sheet.

Why does it fail?
If you have been searching the Internet there are claims these controllers fail because of poor walking belt maintenance. That is not true in this case.
The circuit that fails is "on" all the time the treadmill is plugged in. The safety key does not have to be inserted.
The MC-70 fails because of aging and a heat related problem. The repair and upgrade corrects this and has been tested for long term reliability. We also correct other parts of the circuit known to fail over time. When completed the MC-70 is installed in a working treadmill to insure proper operation. We are so confident in this repair /upgrade if at anytime it fails while you are the owner of this machine we will fix it for free.
The MC 70 and MC 70 A controller is used in Image, NordicTrack, HealthRider, Weslo, Reebok, ProForm and Sears branded treadmills made by Icon Health and Fitness. Typical numbers on the board and mounting plate are 124438 (on board) 141914 (on bottom plate sticker). The bottom sticker will also have the manufactured date ex. W/Y 09/99 Week 09 year 1999. If you have talked to Icon about your problem they would have given you a part number that is exclusive for your particular model ex. 141877, 145168 etc. A new replacement cost between $211.00 - $239.00 plus shipping, handling and sales tax. However, all boards marked MC- 70 or MC-70A are the same when it comes to the repair and upgrade. The controller is manufactured by Procond Electronicia or GE Power Controls.

A word about cleaning and lubricating your walking belt. Proper maintenance will prolong the life of the walking belt ,motor, motor controller and the surface below the belt referred to as the walking board.
Use a clean cloth with a mild cleaner and pressurized air to periodically clean between the belt and board. If you have never lubricated the belt it needs to be done. To see if your belt needs lubricating slide your fingertips across the underside of the belt. If they look shiny then the belt is ok. If they are dry then an application of lube is needed. The lube thats recommended needs to be 100% Silicone, Petroleum Free and not in a aerosol spray. (petroleum and the propellant in a aerosol spray will damage the rubber belt) We sell a 1oz dispenser ideal for this application.
